Joel Passed His Quickstep and Argentine Tango! Yay!

I’m so happy for my son Joel!  In 2014 when he left for Disney On Ice, he still had some tests to pass to complete his gold medals.  Now, he is on his way to becoming a triple gold medalist since he has only two gold dances to go.  It has become progressively harder to get these tests done ever since he has been away from active training.

At the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club virtual test session, Joel filmed the Quickstep and Argentine Tango gold dances on August 27, 2022 and on Sunday September 11, 2022, he found out he passed both dances!

These virtual test options are so cool!

Joel is in Sun Valley On Ice Summer Ice Show 2022!

The above photo shows the smiling faces of the cast of Sun Valley On Ice summer of 2022!  The smiles say it all.  This is a happy cast and I’m so glad my son Joel looks so happy!

Joel told me it was a really fun week of rehearsals from June 6 to June 10 and that the choreographer Stephanie was so nice and amazing.  The show will bring in headliners including Olympic Gold Medalist Nathan Chen and World Pair Skating Champions Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier.  Some of the great skaters Joel gets to perform with include Ryan Bradley, Craig Heath, Ashely Clark, Natalia Zaitseva, and Kim Navarro and Brent Bommentre.  What an honor this is.

Joel will also be coaching skating in Sun Valley.  I am so proud of him.  After touring for seven seasons with Disney On Ice, he is looking forward to staying in one place and performing.  I can’t wait to see the show!

Irina Vorobieva will be missed

It is with extreme sadness that we learned this morning that one of my children’s first pair skating coaches, 1981 World Figure Skating Champion, Irina Vorobieva, died a few days ago.  I learned that she didn’t show up at the rink for some lessons and after two days of not being able to contact her, someone went to her house and she was found on the floor in her bathroom in her Broadmoor home.  It looks like she may have fallen when got out of the shower.  Irina was so, so sweet.  Her daughter Alissa just got married in November 2021 and is in Russia and I hope somehow she will be able to get to the USA for services and to tie things up.

The above videos show Irina performing.  The last video is a part of a documentary on Soviet Pairs Skating.
